Specify SS316 when the coil will be exposed to chlorides (including seawater, salt air, or chlorinated cleaning agents), aggressive acids, or environments where pitting corrosion is a concern. SS316 contains molybdenum which significantly improves resistance to these conditions. For most food processing and general HVAC applications without aggressive chemical exposure, SS304 is sufficient and more cost-effective.
