The coating is typically applied by dipping or spraying the assembled coil, then curing at elevated temperature to create a durable, adherent film.
In coastal environments within 5km of the sea, standard uncoated aluminum fin coils typically corrode and fail within 2–5 years. Golden fin epoxy-coated coils in the same environment typically last 10–15 years. In the Middle East inland environment, standard coils may last 5–8 years, while golden fin coils can last 15+ years. Actual service life depends on the specific environment, installation, and maintenance practices.
Golden fin coils use a thick gold epoxy coating primarily designed for corrosion protection. Blue fin (hydrophilic) coils use a thinner hydrophilic coating designed primarily to improve water drainage from the fin surface during cooling operation — reducing air-side pressure drop and improving efficiency in humid conditions. Hydrophilic coatings provide moderate corrosion protection but are not suitable for genuinely aggressive coastal or marine environments. Golden fin coatings provide much stronger corrosion protection but are not specifically optimized for hydrophilic performance.
For most Middle East coastal projects, golden fin epoxy coating on copper tube / aluminum fin construction is the standard and cost-effective specification. Copper tube / copper fin construction is recommended for installations directly exposed to salt spray (e.g., outdoor units within 1–2km of the sea in high-wind coastal locations) or where a project specification explicitly requires Cu/Cu.
